The Little White Door

The Little White Door

Standing alone at the edge of the road, narrow and pale in the weak light, with no wall around it and no house waiting on either side. It looked as though someone had built an exit before deciding what it should lead out of. Beside it sat a girl with sleepy eyes. 'For quiet,' she said. 'It makes you stop caring whether it works.'

A freestanding doorframe at the roadside.

Sudden cessation of interior ringing, heavy eyelids, pale painted wood with no latch on your side.

Notes

  • The White Door did not ask why. It offered interruption.
  • There was no handle on her side of the door, only a narrow keyhole, white against white.
